Grand Canyon Railway

Williams, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is a triumph of nature. The railroad that serves it a triumph of man. You can experience both as you ride the rails from Williams, Arizona to the South Rim. Along the way strolling musicians play the tunes of the West as the terrain changes from high desert to prairie, prairie to pine. It's a view that's ever-changing until you come across a view that changes so dramatically, it could very well change you. Welcome to the Grand Canyon. AAA-exclusive specials available!

All aboard to Grand Canyon National Park! Grand Canyon Railway made its first journey to the South Rim in 1901, long before Arizona was dubbed the "Grand Canyon State." With the arrival of the train, people could get to the legendary canyon with ease and comfort. Today, you can travel to Grand Canyon National Park along the same rail line your parents or grandparents did. Select from one of four vintage classes of service which have been lovingly restored. Journey to the canyon aboard Grand Canyon Railway and take a trip not only to America's most recognized spectacle, but a trip back in time.

For history, one would be hard pressed to compete with the five million year old Grand Canyon, but at Grand Canyon Railway, we try our best. Each locomotive and passenger car, from Coach to Luxury Parlor Class, has been painstakingly restored to its original state by a staff of mechanics who see their work as more a labor of love than a job. During the train tour, your crew is no less enthusiastic. Each is bursting with local and Grand Canyon folklore and history, as well as Grand Canyon Railway knowledge. Strolling musicians catch you up with what was hot way back when. And there's even a fun recreation of an old fashioned shoot-out and a train robbery. In other words, we take you to the Grand Canyon. And back.

The Grand Canyon Railway has been featured in two of our programs. This place is truly one of a kind, not only in its breathtaking scenery as you travel to the canyon, but in variety of rail equipment and classes of service they offer. Everything from the classic dome cars out of the streamliner era to their five-star service you receive on their parlor car. The entertainment is by far the best that I've seen, from onboard robberies to live music. One of the things I love most about this trip is that there is something for everyone no matter what age they are.

Another thing that stood out to me were the Grand Canyon employees. They truly love working for the railway and do everything they can to make the patrons' visit a once-in-a-lifetime experience that they will always remember. After interviewing many of the patrons that visit and ride this train, one thing stands out the most: they walk away with an appreciation of our rail heritage and how lucky we are to have people like the Grand Canyon Railway that continue to preserve and present our great American railroad history.
