TEXAS STATE RAILROAD
Rusk & Palestine, Texas
The Texas State Railroad, Est. 1881, is the “Official Railroad of Texas” and is truly a “Texas Treasure!” This historic tourist railroad offers steam train excursions that travel 50 miles roundtrip through the scenic piney woods and hardwood creek bottoms of East Texas in 1920’s passenger coaches. Steam excursions depart from the Victorian Style Depot in Rusk, Texas for a 1.5 hour journey to the Palestine Depot for a lunch layover. After lunch, customers board the train for the 1.5 hour return trip. The Texas State Railroad is the home of The Lone Ranger®, so expect to see bandits on the train. Not to worry, The Lone Ranger will save the day!
During steam train excursions, customers can experience the railroads’ best value by riding in the Premium Lone Star Class Adult Only Car or Family Lone Star Class Car featuring table service aboard a climate controlled car with beverages, snacks, and a souvenir refillable tumbler for everyone. Standard seating in coach or open-air cars is also popular.
The Texas State Railroad is also well known for its many popular special events that are held throughout the year, including The Polar Express™ Train Ride, Day Out With Thomas™, Peanuts™ - The Great Pumpkin Patch Express, Peanuts™ - The Valentine Express, Peanuts™ – The Easter Beagle Express, RailFest, Memorial Day Armed Forces Event, & Dinner Trains. For the true rail fan, engine cab rides are available on steam excursions and a photo excursion is held at least once a year during RailFest.
The railroad and its rolling stock has been featured in over 30 movies, TV series and music videos since it first began operating as a tourist railroad in 1976. It has also been awarded Best Attraction by the Texas Travel Counselors in 2011 and holds three Golden Rail Awards from readers of Cowcatcher magazine including, Best Excursion Railroad, Best Theme for The Polar Express™ Train Ride, & Best Special Event for RailFest!
TSRR is a proud member of the American Heritage Railways family! American Heritage Railways owns and operates the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City, North Carolina, and Rail Events, Incorporated, which coordinates licensed special rail-related events around the country.
