Restoration Projects

New York Central Round End Obs

This car required a complete interior overhaul, involving a full gutting and rebuild. Over $300,000 has been invested in its restoration. Recently, we completed the installation of a new kitchen, carpets, and bathroom the car has since been returned to service.

Texas Special 64-Seat Coach

This long-distance passenger car, known as the McAlester, comes from the famed Texas Special. It remains mostly original but requires a full interior restoration. The 64 seats need rebuilding and reupholstering, and two new bathrooms with toilets must be installed. A new heating and AC system is also needed, along with painting the roof and window panels. The 480 HEP wiring has already been installed.

Texas Special 32-Seat Coach, Buffet, 27-Seat Lounge

This car, known as the Temple, is the sister car to the 1206 and ran between Chicago and Austin. Originally configured as a 32-seat coach, buffet, and 27-seat lounge, it has had over $85,000 invested in it and is currently in service. However, the wheels need to be replaced with roller bearings, and the damaged fluting must be installed with the new fluting we’ve acquired. Additionally, the roof and window panels need painting.

Florida East Coast Baggage Dorm

We have not yet begun work on the 1618 car. The plan is to convert one end into a concession area while retaining the showers and conductor’s bedrooms. The baggage area will be repurposed as a generator room. This car will require new windows, repairs to the 480 HEP wiring, and the installation of a 330 kW sled generator.

C&O Extended Vision Caboose

We are in the final stages of restoring this 1968 C&O extended cupola caboose to operational condition. The interior has been fully restored, and the wheels have been replaced to allow for interchange movement. We now need funding to complete the DC electrical system and exterior painting.
